Bike-fit checks without an indoor trainer

Start with controls, support and measurements using equipment you already have.

Choose the basic route

Select “No” or “Not sure” when asked about an indoor trainer. Everyday Bike Fit then offers basic everyday setup checks. You can record the bike identity, frame label and measurements without uploading a riding video.

A wall, doorway or friend holding the seat is not a substitute for a trainer designed to support pedalling. Do not try to perform the movement capture on an improvised support.

Check access before chasing numbers

With the bike safely supported as its instructions allow, consider whether you can get on and off, reach both brakes and use the normal contact points. Leave anything you cannot assess as uncertain.

Note anything loose, damaged or outside its adjustment markings. Have a bike shop resolve these issues before a ride or a fit change. A control issue does not, by itself, prove the frame is the wrong size.

Use the result as a starting record

Once the bike is safe to ride, use a familiar, easy route to record how it feels. Do not use a test ride to push through pain or numbness. Save the duration and any changes in comfort for your next review.

The basic route cannot produce dynamic knee or hip measurements, assess trail handling or select an aerodynamic TT position. Its value is a clear record and a useful next step with your existing equipment.
